problem
Malaysian Hut Restaurant has been loved by the community in Surrey for a while, but its visual identity has not kept pace with its legacy. The branding feels dated and inconsistent across touchpoints, underselling a brand with real cultural significance and a loyal following.
solution
As a personal passion project, I set out to reimagine Malaysian Hut's identity with a refreshed visual direction that honours its roots while positioning it for a modern audience. The refreshed identity draws from Malaysian Hut's existing color palette while giving it a more intentional and cohesive feel. For the wordmark, Crayonette DJR Regular was chosen as a nod to the energy of Malaysian street food signage. A delicate floral mark was woven into the logo as a subtle but meaningful detail, celebrating flowers as a symbol deeply tied to Malaysian identity.
Malaysian Hut Restaurant is a beloved Malaysian eatery that has been a staple in Surrey, BC since 1998. It was my family's favourite restaurant growing up, and a place we returned to again and again over the years. A true hidden gem, it has built a loyal following through the kind of honest, flavourful cooking that keeps people coming back.
